New Every Morning

It had been a long day, and it was only half over with no promise of an easier second half. Like a football team starting the third quarter down by 30 points, no half-time locker room pep talk could make me more optimistic about what the afternoon might offer.
Mini-crises mounted and congealed into one massive, overwhelming, pulsing problem.
Inconveniences and interruptions multiplied like yeast dough popping the lid off its Tupperware bowl.
Half the crises threatened to make the budget crisis worse. The other half drained the reserves in my joy account.
Nothing loomed as monstrous as a fatal disease or a prison term, but stacked atop one another, the day’s concerns could have formed a ladder to reach the third floor window of a psych ward, I was sure.
When the dryer vent started smoking, I sank onto an ottoman (well, AFTER putting out the fire), convinced that even shortly after lunch, the day was a total loss.
A thought tugged at the back of my brain. What day could be considered a total loss if God were in it?
I sighed and claimed a promise I knew to be true, but hadn’t explored as fully as I should have. “His mercies are new every morning.”
My husband added what I’d forgotten. “Honey, His mercies are new every afternoon, too.”
PRAYER: Lord, You have made provision for my every need, even for terrible, horrible, awful, no good days. Forgive me for forgetting once in a while.
“His mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness,” Lamentations 3:23 KJV.
