I Didn’t Know

I asked one of my students to be in a skit for an upcoming youth service for our church.
“Oh no. I’d be too scared.” Kara looked down.
“Do you get stage fright?” I sensed her timidity.
“I’m just shy.”
Two weeks later we met to practice for our performance. “Okay everyone, let’s line up to rehearse the skit. For those of you who aren’t in it, can you be our pretend audience for today?” After these instructions, the teens performed the funny skit about a gal playing the radio, and as she switched the channels, it told one hilarious story, compiled of the blended programming. Each teen represented a different radio station.
After we completed the skit, Kara said, “I want a part—give me a part!”
“But Kara, you said you didn’t want to be in the skit.”
“Miss Kathy, I didn’t know what a skit WAS!”
Isn’t that just like us? God wants us to do something for Him, but when He asks, we say “no.” We don’t understand His language—His ways. We turn Him down because we really don’t know how good the intended outcome will be. We don’t see into the future like He does—we just don’t know.
If we would say “yes” more often, we’d get to be a part of something really special, as special as this youth skit.
AUTHOR QUOTE: Just because you don’t “know” don’t say “no.” Say “I’ll try” and see what happens!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD,” Isaiah 55:8 KJV.
