The Cupboard is Bare

Isn’t it amazing how we can have a cupboard full of food, yet can hear the cry from our families, “There’s nothing here to eat?” We know there is plenty of food in the house. No one is going to starve. But then they know that, too. They’re not really saying they can’t find anything to eat. What they’re looking for is something that will satisfy. Our souls are like that. We long for something that will satisfy our inner hunger. We look into the cupboard that is filled with all the world has to offer: movies, relationships, big houses, fast cars, and nice vacations, and yet see nothing to eat – nothing to satisfy. But God knows how to satisfy our hunger pangs.
I read this passage several times before the words jumped off the page at me. “Then I will send rain on your land in its season.” The scripture goes on to detail how we will be satisfied. But there it is- three little words that help us to see how God will feed us. He doesn’t promise us whenever we say we are hungry or thirsty He will send the food. He says he will send the rain in its season. So if you are going through a time of deep hunger, and you are wondering where the food He has promised is, know that it is coming—in due season. You won’t starve. There is plenty of food in the storehouse.

PRAYER: I praise You, God, for having a storehouse full of food that will satisfy my soul. Thank You for knowing the perfect season to send the rain, for You are the only source of satisfaction for the hunger in my soul.

“Now, if you pay close attention to my commandments that I am giving you today and love the Lord your God and serve him with all your mind and being, then he promises, “I will send rain for your land in its season, the autumn and the spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and olive oil,” Deuteronomy 11:13-14 NET.
