For Future Generations

I can’t think of a more overwhelming role than that of parent. When a mother or father holds that tiny baby in their arms and they realize how dependent that life is on them, the feeling must be wonder and awe. Awe that God would entrust such a life to you who are, at times, not so sure how to handle your own life; and wonder or doubt that you will be all that child needs you to be. Abraham must have felt that same way when told he would be the father of a whole nation. But God knew Abraham’s fears as well as ours, and He has a plan.
God knew Abraham would not be perfect, nor would his children, yet He still chose Abraham to be the father of the Christian peoples. How could God do that? God’s purposes cannot be thwarted by our humanity, but He does need us in order to work out His plan. How amazing! How merciful! I thank God He looks at the heart and not our actions in order to judge whether we are trustworthy. He saw Abraham’s heart and knew his love for Him would overshadow all human errors. God could and still can work with that in our lives today.
PRAYER: Your sovereignty and willingness Lord to judge based upon the heart and not the hand is to be praised. Thank You for trusting me to carry Your name for future generations. Help me to always remain faithful in my heart even when my actions may not always match.
“What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not! For he says to Moses: ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.’ So then, it does not depend on human desire or exertion, but on God who shows mercy,” Romans 9:14-16 NET.
