The Perfect Match

Anthony Turner had little warning. In 2008, while on vacation with his wife and two young children, an illness struck. Returning home, he sought medical help and was promptly sent by ambulance to the hospital. The prognosis—kidney failure. For reasons unexplained, Anthony’s kidneys were only functioning at three percent.

With no other health issues, and at the age of thirty seven, Anthony was shocked. Without other alternatives, he quit work and began dialysis. Even on a transplant list, his options looked bleak. The wait for a healthy kidney could take five years.

Unknown to Anthony, his father Lee Turner began the testing process to see if he could donate his kidney. After three rounds of tests, Lee found he was a “perfect” match for his son and approached Anthony with the news.

Anthony was stunned since his father had health problems in the past. With their strong faith in God, both men talked and prayed together. May 28, 2009 the transplant took place, and Anthony and his father came through surgery with no complications.

When asked about his decision, Lee said, “I’m Anthony’s father, it is my responsibility to take care of my son and while it was a difficult decision, it was the right one. I just did what a father should do for his son.”

God in His amazing love knew we would need a perfect match to heal our sin-stained bodies. Two thousand years ago, God’s perfect Son, Jesus Christ sacrificed/donated his life to save ours.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV).
