Wag Your Tail With Joy

Are you more like a dog or more like a cat?  These two animals have different approaches to the day; one is content with everything while the other is quite grumpy.

I have a dog. She’s a miniature schnauzer. I have a cat. She is a Siamese. They have the same master but their attitudes are entirely different.  As for my dog she tends to have, the attitude of whatever she is doing, it is her favorite activity.  When I pour her dog food, she twirls around as if to say, my favorite.  If she goes for a car ride, she sticks her ears out into the wind, her favorite way to look out the window.  If we take a walk, she pulls and rushes ahead, her favorite way of making me hurry up.  When I let her outside in the back yard, she runs as if she has never been on that lawn before.  At the end of my workday, she meets me at the door, jumps into my arms, licks my face and loves me. I am her favorite. When I play hide’n seek with her, she never tires and will search for me forever.  And yes, sleeping in my bed, her master’s bed – her all time favorite.

Do you approach life like my dog, taking on each activity as though it were your favorite? Or do you act like my cat?

My cat tends to act as if she is being held captive, and like she is bored when I taunt her with dangling objects.  She turns up her nose when I give her dry food, acting as if she should get tuna instead. Yes, my cat is a little uppity and demanding.  She gets satisfaction when she leaves cat hair on the sofa, or when she scratches the furniture.  She tends to weave herself between my legs, almost making me trip.  She wants me to know she is in the room, she thinks she is important. She wants you to think she doesn’t care, so she prances and hides, only to show up when you least expect it.

So, if I asked you to tell me your private thoughts, what would I learn? Are you happy like my dog or aloof like my cat?

At the sound of your alarm this morning did you say, this is my favorite time of the day? What about work, do you love your job and can honestly say, my favorite?  What about chores, another favorite? Traffic jams? Laundry? Shopping? Any favorites?

I think some of you may see yourself more like my cat, grumpy and conniving, or somewhat demanding.  You behead those around you. You prance around. You weave yourself into other’s lives, only to leave behind balls of hair on the furniture.

So how do you approach the day? Is this your favorite day so far?

Take a tour of your heart, unleash your happiness and you might find yourself taking the walk of lifetime. Stick your head out the window, mess up your hair and smile.  Remember, this is the day that the Lord has made, so take my advice, rejoice and be glad in it, and be sure to wag your tail — along the way.

So true! I’m def a dog, but I notice as I get older, I’m showing cat-like qualities, preferring the couch to running around.

    Thanks for the giggles!
