Under Watchful Eyes
Recently my husband, son and I were driving down a long country road to a conference, followed the entire time by a brown car. As we reached the outskirts of town, we decided to stop for gas. After filling up, we got back on the road but noticed police lights, sirens, and slow traffic up ahead. As we crept up to pass, we noticed the car that had followed us was in a head-on crash, and the driver was being placed on a stretcher. As we passed the scene we realized that it could have been us in the accident if we had not stopped for gas.
Another time, when I was a teenager, my mom sent me to the store to get milk for breakfast. When I climbed into Dad’s car, I noticed he had a full tank of gas, unusual for my dad who liked to drive on fumes. I drove five blocks down the road only to be hit broadside by a red-light runner. The impact catapulted my vehicle into a violent spin that spewed gas over the highway. I escaped with bruises, but the car was totaled. The firefighters on the scene told my parents, “If you’d not had a full tank of gas, the car would have exploded on impact.” Knowing my dad never had a full tank of gas in his car, we saw God’s hand of protection that day.
God works daily to protect us. Sometimes we see the evidence but many times we don’t. When our own children are born, we are constantly watching over them to shield them from injury and ensure their safety. Just as we look after our little ones to protect them from harm, I believe God does the same for us. He leads, guides, and cares for us. We are His precious children, always under His watchful eyes. We are never alone with God as our father. That gives me great comfort.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your daily protection and watchful care. Keep me mindful as one of Your children that You are guarding, shielding and protecting me along life’s way.
“He stores up effective counsel for the upright, and is like a shield for those who walk with integrity, to guard the paths of the righteous and to protect the way of His pious ones,” Proverbs 2:7, 8 NET.
