NICOLE C. MULLEN Signs on to Teach at GMA
NICOLE C. MULLEN, MARK HARRIS AND SHAUN GROVES SIGN ON TO TEACH AT GMA ACADEMY SET FOR OCTOBER IN MUSIC CITY. Event Attended by “American Idol” Jordin Sparks Offers Aspiring Songwriters and Artists Opportunity to Compete in Talent Competition and Learn From Industry Leaders
MUSIC CITY, Tenn. – Sept. 6, 2007 – Three of Christian and gospel music’s most respected artists Nicole C. Mullen, Mark Harris and Shaun Groves have signed on to teach at the Gospel Music Association (GMA) Academy Talent Competition and Seminar October 12-13, 2007, the Christian/Gospel industry's official weekend training camp and competition for artists and songwriters. It was at this same event, held in Washington D.C. in 2004, that current “American Idol” champ Jordin Sparks competed and won one of her first major talent competitions.
The GMA Academy Music City event will be held at Christ Church in Nashville beginning on Friday, October 12 for two days of intensive songwriting and performance training and the gospel music industry’s most influential talent competition.
INO Records recording artist and former 4-Him frontman Mark Harris and Word Records recording artist Nicole C. Mullen are the Academy’s Artists-in-Residence and will be on-site to perform and speak at teaching concerts as well as hosting the talent competitions during the event. "Their participation provides attendees with an opportunity at an intimate look at each artist's career, songs and their ministry, and is one of the unique features of GMA Academy that attracts aspiring artists and songwriters coming from all over the country.
Independent artist and worship leader Shaun Groves’ teaching will come in the form of the keynote address, “What Defines Success For You as an Indie Artist/Songwriter,” where Groves will share his thoughts on what defines success for independent artists and songwriters. Groves, who is known for his sharp wit as well as his insightful songwriting, offers a glimpse of what registrants can expect from his presentation in a special video clip now playing on YouTube at www.youtube.com/gospelmusicassoc.
“I really love what GMA is doing through the GMA Academy. It seems so beneficial for young, aspiring Christian musicians to have such a great resource to draw from. That is why I am committed to being a part of the team. I love being able to give what information I have gathered over my career to young artist and believe mentoring is definitely a part of what God has called me to do," said Harris.
Adds Mullen, "All my life I've been greatly influenced by the artist and song writers that I listened to and respected. The Lord has used them to help shape my own views, standards, and style. One of my favorite scriptures is 'I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, and with my mouth I will make known thy faithfulness to all generations'. I am honored for the opportunity to do just that."
The three artists are among the many Christian and gospel music industry professionals that teach a thorough GMA Academy curriculum over the two day event. Seminar classes are specifically designed for both artists and songwriters and are geared to various gospel styles. Topics schedule for the GMA Academy in Nashville include:

One of the main draws of the GMA Academy will be the talent competition. Artist and Song winners will be chosen from submitted entries in various genres and categories with finalists chosen to perform at a closing night concert at the Academy. Regional winners from the competition will be chosen to advance to the semifinal round of the GMA Music in the Rockies national competition held in Estes Park, Colorado in August 2008.
